Squid — liquid embolic AVM treatment
SQUID is a polymer named EVOH which is liquid when dissolved in DMSO but precipitates in contact with aqueous solution.
Squid is intended for the treatment of brain AVMs and fistulas.
Product Info
Squid is not radio opaque, consequently it comes with Tantalum powder which ensures visibility of the injections. Squid vials need to be shaken on a Vortex machine for 20 minutes before use, in order to have a good homogeneity of Tantalum particles in suspension.
Squid is available in 2 types of viscosity: 12 and 18 Centipoise which can be combined during a procedure, depending on the treatment strategy.
- Squid 18: was the original viscosity available on the market, with good embolization properties and behaviour.
- Squid 12: developed by Balt/Emboflu, it has a lower viscosity and consequently can penetrate smaller or more distal vessels. It’s unique on the market.
- Squid 34: has a lower viscosity and has been developed for peripheral embolisations.
