Sonic — detachable microcatheter

Designed for prolonged liquid embolic injection, the Balt Sonic detachable microcatheter offers enhanced versatility for selective and hyper-selective vascular catheterisation in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

It is compatible with dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and features a detachable patented catheter tip to minimise excessive traction on the neurovasculature, while retaining progressive suppleness down to 1.2F.

Product Info

Balt not only developed a compatible microcatheter, as well introduced the new concept of detachable tip which solved the issue of limited reflux along the catheter tip during AVM embolization.

In the eventuality of a catheter tip stuck after the injection of Squid, the tip will detach with a moderate traction force and a short segment will remain in the AVM, without any consequence for the patient. Sonic is called the “lizard catheter”.

The catheter is braided up to the detachment point.3 distal ORX markers give a good visibility and understanding of the catheter’s position.

Sonic1.2F: like Magic1.2F, it’s the smallest microcatheter available with a 1.2F tip, and has by far the best navigability compared to other DMSO compatible microcatheters. It is compatible only with Hybrid007D and HYBRID008D guidewires.

  • Available in 3 lengths of detachable tip: 15mm, 25mm,35mm.

SONIC1.5F: has a slightly superior flow rate for injections than Sonic1.2F thanks to a bigger lumen, with still an excellent navigability. It is compatible only with Hybrid007D and HYBRID008D guidewires.

  • Available in 4lengths of detachable tip: 15mm, 25mm,35mm and 45mm.
